Arts Magnifique! Highlights

The Entertainment

The Opera Company of Philadelphia

Each season the Opera Company of Philadelphia wows audiences with large main stage productions at the Academy of Music – and with intimate, unique chamber works at the Kimmel Center’s Perelman Theater.

The Opera Company put on a thrilling 'pop-up' performance with bass-baritone soloist, Daniel Mobbs, and members of the OCP chorus.

Miro Dance Theatre - with TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb

Rock and roll. High legs. And, of course, high skirts. It’s the can-can – with an irreverent twist.

Get ready for a contemporary and experimental reworking of a Parisian classic. Appearing with Miro Dance Theatre’s Amanda Miller, the company’s artistic director, choreographer and dancer, are Paul Struck, Buffy Miller, Andre Zachery and Benjamin Asriel. Music is by TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb. Tobin Rothlein, Miro’s producing artistic director, video and visual design, is production manager for the performance.

Settlement Music School

Café tables and spring breezes. Horse chestnuts and the Champs-Élysées. It all comes to life as nine talented student musicians from the Mary Louise Curtis branch of the Settlement Music School perform Vernon Duke’s “April in Paris” and Bud Powell’s “Parisian Thoroughfare.”

The scholarship jazz ensemble includes: Lenny Wainstein, piano; Max Kraus, bass; Matthew Altman, drums; Shakoor Sanders, percussion; Nathaniel Vito, vibraphone; Tyler Tritt, trumpet; Nzinga Banks, alto saxophone; and Jack St. Clair, tenor saxophone. Directing the group is Settlement faculty member Tony Miceli, a well-known area vibraphonist and recording artist.

Patrick Michael - Arts Magnifique! Emcee

Known in film, theater and TV, Patrick is an actor, producer, singer and dancer. For three years, he was co-host of the Discovery Channel’s Travelers, reporting about the world’s great cities and festivals. Now he takes us onto the cabaret stage with a joie de vivre that only he can deliver.

Peek-a-Boo Revue

Sexy, risqué and, mais oui, suggestive. That’s Peek-a-Boo Revue, Philly’s own burlesque troupe that is more than scantily clad women. With a bit of tease and a lot of comedic energy, our honorees’ escorts, Lulu Lollipop, Ginger Leigh and Lyra Kelly, bring cabaret sizzle to the stage.
