PNC ARTS ALIVE AWARD FOR INNOVATION IN HONOR OF PEGGY AMSTERDAM
THE KIMMEL CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS (PIFA)
“Art is made up of moments. Moments of inspiration. Power. Emotion. Grace. Passion.” So says the unofficial slogan of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts' inaugural Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts, in a perfect illustration of what is sure to become a long-standing Philadelphia tradition. Be it performance, visual, musical or otherwise, any type of art can have a positive impact on its community when presented in the right way, and the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts did just this in April 2011. The sheer expanse of the festival – in participation, attendance, and artistic range – exemplifies how powerful the arts can be in bringing together Philadelphia’s diverse communities. PIFA truly adds a new and excitingly bright light to the ever rich skyline of arts in Philadelphia.
The PNC Arts Alive Award for Innovation in Honor of Peggy Amsterdam recognizes a visual and/or performing arts group that has successfully demonstrated an innovative approach to increasing arts access and engagement, as a part of a five-year, $5-million program by The PNC Foundation designed to support visual and performing arts organizations. PIFA has redoubled this effect, bringing more than 400,000 attendees and over $50-million impact to the city of Philadelphia in a matter of weeks, including people from all walks of life, as well as all parts of the country and world. As the festival continues to grow and thrive in its future years, it ensures a bright future for the arts scene of our beloved city.
