PHILADELPHIA VOLUNTEER LAWYERS FOR THE ARTS VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
KEITH B. JOSEPH, ESQ. Associate, Ballard Spahr, LLP & MAURA MCKENNA, ESQ., Solutions Consultant, LexisNexis
Maura McKenna and Keith B. Josephare the 2013 co-recipients of the PVLA Volunteer of the Year Award. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Maura McKenna is currently a Small Law Solutions Consultant at LexisNexis. Keith B. Joseph, Esq. is a graduate of the Villanova University School of Law, and now serves as a Ballard Spahrlitigation Associate and member of their Commercial Litigation Group.
An established complex commercial litigator, Joseph has also built an outstanding reputation as a civil servant, spearheading an active pro bono practice and serving as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Equality Forum -- a Philadelphia-based nonprofit whose mission is advancing national and international gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender civil rights through education.
In addition, McKenna has also demonstrated commitment to assisting the underserved in Philadelphia. She sits on the board of the Custody and Support Clinic at Philadelphia Legal Assistance, and has completed pro bono work not only with PVLA, but with Philly VIP, the ACLU of Southeastern PA, Equality Pennsylvania, the Mazzoni Center and the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania.
McKenna and Joseph took on a tough PVLA case assignment with Spiral Q Puppet Theater last July, leaving a stellar, lasting impression on the organization. Together, providing pro bono legal representation in favorably resolving a landlord-tenant dispute, she and Joseph contributed well over $20,000 in legal services.
The Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts Volunteer of the Year Award is presented to the lawyer who has had a profound effect on the functionality of the individual artist or arts organization that they represented through the Arts & Business Council's Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts program. Through their dedication and extensive service to the arts and culture communities, Maura McKenna and Keith B. Joseph are surely deserving of this award.
