Strategic Technology Planning
Since starting the Technology Connector’s program in 2001, we’ve learned that most organizations think about a technology plan as a budgetary timeframe for purchasing new hardware and software. Organizations rarely take the time to build a comprehensive technology plan that aligns with their business goals; thereby optimizing the investment in, and use of, technology. Strategic Technology Planning minimizes technology-related crises which frequently result in costly unplanned expenditures.
Is your organization in need of assistance with the development of a technology plan that is focused on how technology will be used within your organization to achieve its business goals? Arts and cultural organizations that participate in our Strategic Technology Planning program learn how to:
- Align technology with organizations' goals
- Gain knowledge of technology needs and constraints
- Establish alliances with executive sponsors
- Obtain funding and resources
- Address identified technology needs
- Demonstrate accountability
How Organizations Benefit
- Participating arts organizations benefit from working directly with a technology professional who is the Project Leader. The Project Leader guides each arts group through the technology planning process and engages other technology professionals as required for specific expertise. The value of these working technology professionals volunteering their time to each organization is conservatively estimated at $22,000 per project.
- In addition to the educational component of each of the three scheduled workshops, participating arts groups have the opportunity to meet and collaborate with other arts managers and their Project Leaders during these workshops.
- And most importantly, participation in this program will result in a comprehensive technology plan that:
- Documents current technology capabilities
- Describes the technology needs required for achievement of business goals and objectives
- Provides a roadmap including budget and implementation timeline
- Is a living document with a three year continuous life cycle.
HOW ARTS ORGANIZATIONS CAN PARTICIPATE IN 2011
Only eight to ten organizations will be selected to participate in this program which will run from January 2011 to June 2011. Invited organizations agree to participate in three workshops (each designed to assist you with the development of your technology plan). See the project calendar for details. On average, each participating arts organization’s time will be a minimum of eight hours per month.
