Become a Volunteer

Do you want to use your expertise to greatly impact an area of need for many arts organizations? If so, then join the Technology Connectors team! Technology professionals who participate in the program expand their skills and professional networks while lending much-needed and valued support to our cultural community.

Benefits of volunteering

  • Strengthen your leadership skills by spearheading a technology capacity-improvement project.
  • Broaden the scope of your skills by channeling them into a creative arena.
  • Make a positive difference in the community.

"I thoroughly enjoy using my skills to help nonprofits, and I have been able to learn so much from the creative people I am helping. I have been able to strengthen my existing technology skills and learn new technical concepts at the same time. The Technology Connector's administrators make it easy to work on the projects while juggling work, family and other obligations. I'm enjoying myself immensely!"

Should you be a Technology Volunteer?

We are always looking for technology professionals with a wide range of expertise—from hands-on project help to strategic planning and project management.

The ideal volunteer has technology expertise in at least one specific area and possesses creativity, initiative and flexibility about working in new environments. We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 5-10 hours per month when assigned to a project, and provide monthly updates (online) during and at the end of the project.

How to Apply

You can apply online.

  • Just complete the application form.
  • After we receive your application, we will contact you to discuss your interests and skills.
  • Once accepted into the program, you will participate in a Tech Leadership Training session to learn about issues facing nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and to prepare you to be an effective consultant in an arts setting.
  • After you've completed the training session, we'll place you with an arts organization with a clearly defined project that aligns with your area of expertise.

Training Date and Location

  • The next training session will be held:
Saturday, September 27, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, located at 200 South Broad Street (Broad and Walnut Streets) in Philadelphia.
  • The training program includes an overview of the region’s cultural landscape, panel discussions with arts managers and active Technology Connectors volunteers and opportunities to practice your consulting skills through case studies and role-playing exercises.

Participant Fee

There is a training fee of $250 per participant. Many companies subsidize this fee, recognizing that having employees involved as a Technology volunteer offers both professional development opportunities and a way to enhance the company's presence in the community.
